Firing glasses date back to the 18th century and were traditionally used during toasts at meetings, clubs, and Masonic lodges, earning their name from the loud bang they made when slammed down on a wooden table.

These pieces were typically hand-blown using lead crystal or soda glass, featuring thick, heavy feet designed to withstand impact and intricate hand-cut facets along the stem and bowl.

Authentic pieces often exhibit pontil marks on the base, minor surface wear consistent with age, irregularities typical of manual glassblowing, and specific chemical compositions detectable under ultraviolet light.

Displaying antique stemware within glass-fronted cabinets, open shelving, or upon sideboards introduces historic texture and reflective quality to a room.

Historic glassware requires gentle hand washing in lukewarm water with mild detergent, avoiding harsh scrubbing, extreme temperature fluctuations, and automated dishwashers.
