FAQs

Victorian cranberry glass, characterised by its distinctive pinkish-red hue achieved by adding gold chloride to the molten glass batch, reached the height of its popularity during the late 19th century.

These items typically combine blown glass bodies with hallmarked sterling silver mounts, often featuring hand-shaped stems and hinged or fitted lids crafted by traditional silversmiths.

Authentic pieces usually exhibit British sterling silver hallmarks indicating the assay office, date letter, and makers mark, alongside minor surface imperfections and pontil marks typical of period glassblowing techniques.

Such items function effectively as decorative accent pieces on polished wood surfaces, glass shelves, or mantelpieces, introducing a distinct splash of saturated colour and period craftsmanship to a room.

Maintenance requires gentle hand washing in lukewarm water with mild detergent, avoiding abrasive cleaners on the glass, and using specialised non-abrasive silver cloths on the metal components to preserve the natural patina.
