Art Deco design, prominent from the 1920s to the 1930s, is characterised by geometric symmetry, stylised motifs, and vibrant use of colour, often combining precious metals with machine-turned guilloche enamel.

These pieces typically combine sterling silver mounts and cut glass bases with guilloche enamel, a technique where metal is engraved with an intricate repeating pattern beneath translucent coloured enamel.

Authenticity is verified through clear hallmarks indicating the metal purity, makers mark, assay office, and date letter, alongside examining the precision of the engine-turned engraving and the condition of the vitreous enamel.

Such decorative objects work well placed on a reflective surface like a mirrored tray or dressing table top, adding a sophisticated splash of colour and period craftsmanship to a contemporary bedroom or bathroom.

Maintain the piece by keeping it away from direct sunlight to prevent enamel fading, avoid harsh chemical dips that damage enamel or stone settings, and gently clean silver components with a soft microfibre cloth.
