FAQs

Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often moved away from the heavy, dark styles of the Victorian era towards lighter, more refined designs inspired by Sheraton and Hepplewhite revivals.

These pieces typically utilized solid mahogany or mahogany veneers applied to secondary woods like pine, featuring dovetail joinery, brass or turned wooden hardware, and careful hand-polishing.

Authentic items feature period-appropriate construction techniques such as hand-cut dovetailing, timber shrinkage consistent with age, period brass fittings, and construction methods characteristic of early 20th-century workshops rather than modern machinery.

Pair the dark wood tones with neutral walls, modern lighting, and minimalist accessories to create a balanced aesthetic that highlights the historical character of the piece without overwhelming the space.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, dusting with a soft dry cloth periodically, and applying occasional natural beeswax polish to nourish the finish.
