FAQs

Palais Royal opaline glass refers to luxury souvenir pieces retailed in the prestigious Palais Royal arcades in Paris during the nineteenth century, known for fine craftsmanship and decorative metal mounts.

These caskets typically combine hand-blown opaline or uranium glass with cast brass or gilt bronze mounts, often supported by a white marble or alabaster base.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct patination on the brass mounts, hand-finished glass edges, and traditional construction methods such as pinned hinges rather than modern screws.

Position the piece on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or side table where ambient light can pass through the translucent glass to highlight its distinctive colour and metallic details.

Clean gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove dust, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, immersion in water, or abrasive materials that could damage the delicate metal mounts or glass surface.
