A stunning cut glass bonboniere, preserve or sweetmeat jar, in the Regency style. This delightful piece has a goblet shaped body with slice cutting and a band of hobnails. The foot is square and there is a polished pontil mark in the centre of the base. Bonboniere's were high quality items for the serving table, containing bonbons or sweetmeats, but would serve well as a preserve or pickle jar. A fine example, both practical and decorative. Bonbonnieres originated in 18th-century France as ornate containers for sweets and confections, becoming widely produced in Britain during the Victorian era as industrial glass cutting techniques advanced and domestic dining became more elaborate.

These pieces were typically crafted from lead crystal or flint glass, shaped using free-blowing or mould-pressing techniques, and subsequently hand-finished with wheel-cut geometric patterns by skilled artisans.

Authentic pieces often exhibit minor surface wear, hand-polished pontil marks on the base, slight optical distortions in the glass, and sharp, deep facets characteristic of 19th-century manufacturing methods.

Display the piece on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or open shelving to catch the light, either empty to showcase the reflective facets or filled with organic objects like dried botanicals or sea glass.

Clean the item gently using lukewarm water and a mild detergent with a soft brush, avoiding harsh chemicals, extreme temperature fluctuations, and dishwashers to protect the delicate cut surfaces.
