Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian bureau bookcase is a multifunctional piece of 18th-century English furniture combining a slanted drop-front desk, lower storage drawers, and an upper cabinet or bookcase. Designed during the Georgian era, these pieces served as administrative hubs in private residences.

These pieces are predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or flame mahogany veneer, often with oak or pine as secondary drawer lining woods. Features include cast brass handles, escutcheons, and hand-cut dovetail joinery throughout the carcass and drawers.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-sawn timber marks on back panels, uneven hand-cut dovetails, and historic iron or brass locks. Original handles frequently leave subtle indentation marks or ghosting patterns against the mahogany timber surface over time.

Positioning the bureau bookcase against a neutral painted wall creates a focal point in a study, hallway, or living space. Styling the open slant-front writing surface or placing ceramics and leather-bound volumes inside the cabinet complements its architectural proportions.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the timber patination. Avoid placing the furniture near direct heat sources or in fluctuating humidity to prevent timber shrinkage or panel cracking.
