This Georgian bureau bookcase dates from around 1750 and is formed of mahogany with a warm brown timber colour and rich patina. The top has a swan-neck pediment centred by a turned urn finial, above twin panelled upper doors fitted with brass keyhole escutcheons and small round wooden knobs below. The fall-front slant-front desk opens to reveal a fitted interior with pigeonholes, miniature drawers, and small book volumes, surmounting a base with two short over three long graduated drawers, each furnished with brass bail handles and keyplates, standing on bracket feet. The dimensions measure 241.5 cm high, 101.5 cm wide, and 58.5 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this large statement piece serves as a traditional writing desk and display cabinet suitable for a study, library, or drawing room. The upper cupboard accommodates books or decorative objects behind the solid timber doors, whilst the drop-down writing surface provides a dedicated writing workstation.
