Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the early eighteenth century, the bureau bookcase developed as a multi-functional piece of furniture combining a drop-front writing desk, storage drawers, and a upper cabinet with glass doors for displaying books and collectibles.

Authentic Georgian examples typically feature high-grade solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, secondary timbers such as pine or oak for drawer lining, mouth-blown glass panes set within astragal glazing bars, and cast brass handles.

Look for hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, age-related shrinkage in solid wood panels, irregularity or slight distortion in original glass panes, and genuine patination around original brass hardware.

A tall mahogany bureau bookcase is often used as a focal point in a home office, hallway, or living area, juxtaposed against clean contemporary walls and styled with art glass, ceramics, or curated book collections within the upper cabinet.

Regularly dust with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish twice yearly following the natural wood grain, while avoiding direct sunlight, radiator heat sources, and abrasive liquid cleaners.
