Nineteenth century coloured glassware encompasses various styles popularised during the Victorian era, frequently utilising mineral oxides like manganese to achieve rich amethyst and purple tones.

Traditional production methods involved hand-blowing glass into moulds or free-blowing, followed by hand-finishing of stems and square or round bases by skilled glassmakers.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit pontil marks on the base, minor irregularities in the glass thickness, and natural wear consistent with age and careful handling.

Antique stemware can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets or used thoughtfully on dining tables to introduce historical character and vibrant colour accents to a room.

Old glass should be washed by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and abrasive materials to protect the delicate surface.
