Anglo-Irish cut glass of the 19th century is characterised by heavy lead content, deep brilliant cutting, and complex geometric patterns such as diamonds, fan motifs, and starbursts.

These pieces were crafted from heavy potash-lead glass, mouth-blown into moulds or free-blown, and then laboriously hand-cut and polished on stone and wooden wheels.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit a high refractive index, minor surface wear or scratches on the base known as shelf wear, slight irregularities in the hand-cut facets, and a heavy feel due to the lead content.

Such pieces can be used functionally as centrepieces on dining tables or displayed on sideboards and open shelving to catch natural light and create textural contrast with modern minimalist surfaces.

Antique crystal should be washed by hand in lukewarm water using a mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes to prevent thermal shock, and dried carefully with a lint-free cloth.
