Description

A stunning and very impressive large antique oriental ceramic table lamp. We can’t work out if it’s Chinese or Japanese. It dates from the late 19th century and was likely converted into a lamp in the mid twentieth century.

It is of extremely fine quality, with beautiful and profuse decorations throughout. It is mounted on a wooden base and has a brass plate at the top, with a bayonet bulb holder. We have paired this with a large and very beautiful vintage silk shade.

The condition is excellent for its age, with just some extremely minor surface wear. This has been re-wired and it is in good working order.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Antique oriental ceramic table lamps typically feature hand-thrown porcelain or pottery bodies, often repurposed from traditional vessels such as ginger jars or vases, decorated with hand-painted motifs.

Traditional construction involves high-fired porcelain or ceramic bodies, frequently mounted on carved wooden bases with brass fittings and topped with silk or fabric shades.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the glaze characteristics, hand-painted brushwork details, wear patterns on the base, and traditional wiring or mounting techniques used during conversion.

Such pieces serve as focal points on sideboards or consoles, introducing texture, colour, and historical contrast to minimalist or transitional living spaces.

Dust the ceramic body gently with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners to protect the integrity of the glaze and hand-painted details.
