FAQs

Spoon warmers were dining table accessories popular in the Victorian era, designed to hold hot water that kept serving spoons warm so they would not chill cold desserts or sauces.

These items were typically manufactured from silver plate, sterling silver, or Britannia metal, often featuring ceramic internal reservoirs for hot water.

Authentic pieces from the 19th century usually feature period makers marks, traditional Sheffield or electroplate hallmarks, and heavy-gauge metal construction with period engraving styles.

Such pieces function well as decorative objects on a sideboard or mantelpiece, adding metallic texture and historical interest to transitional or classic interior schemes.

Silver plate should be cleaned gently using specialised non-abrasive silver polish and a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can strip the plating.
