This is a Georgian taper decanter dating from the turn of the 18th/19th centuries, c1800.
The decanter is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear consistent with some 200+ years of use.
The amethyst glass decanter is taper-shaped and plain, without decoration. The base is also plain with a rough pontil mark to its centre and measures 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter. The decanter is 24.5 cm (9.8 inches) in height without the stopper and 31 cm (12.8 inches) in height with the stopper inserted.
The stopper is of cut lozenge form, and is almost certainly the original. It is of the same colour and metal as the decanter and is an excellent fit.
There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. It appears to have been professionally cleaned. There are a couple of tiny unburst bubbles in the metal of the decanter dating from manufacture,
