A Georgian corner cupboard is a storage unit designed specifically to fit into the corner of a room, popular during the 18th and early 19th centuries to maximise space in smaller parlours and dining rooms.

These cupboards were typically constructed using native timbers such as oak, mahogany, or elm, often featuring secondary woods like pine or deal for interior shelves and backs, joined with traditional mortise and tenon construction.

Authentic pieces display period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional brass H-hinges, iron lock mechanisms, and natural timber shrinkage consistent with age.

An antique wooden corner cupboard can add warmth and historical contrast to a neutral modern space, serving as both a functional storage solution and a focal point for displaying ceramics or glassware.

Maintain antique oak by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, and occasionally feed the wood with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
