We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Tantalus sets and games compendiums became immensely popular in late Victorian and Edwardian homes as symbols of middle-class prosperity and hospitality, designed to securely house spirits and gaming equipment for evening entertaining.

Authentic period pieces are typically crafted from solid quarter-sawn oak or mahogany, frequently featuring dovetailed joints, bevelled glass mirrors, cut crystal decanters, and plated or solid brass mounts.

Authentication involves examining the locking mechanisms, hand-cut dovetail construction, patination of the wood, and the weight and hand-cut facets of the crystal decanters rather than machine-moulded glass.

Position the piece on a sideboard or home bar to introduce textural warmth and historical contrast, pairing it with mid-century or contemporary minimalist furnishings to highlight its craftsmanship.

Maintain the wood using microcrystalline wax to preserve the finish, avoid direct sunlight and humidity fluctuations, and clean brass components sparingly with non-abrasive cloths to protect the natural patina.
