Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

The Globe Wernicke company pioneered the sectional lawyer or barrister bookcase in the late 19th century, allowing users to stack modular wooden tiers with glass lift-up doors to accommodate growing book collections.

Authentic pieces are typically constructed from solid quarter-sawn oak with prominent medullary rays, featuring interlocking modular sections, metal mechanism guides, and glass panes set into wooden frames.

Authenticity is verified by makers brass plaques or stamps inside the tiers, precise mortise and tenon joinery, quarter-sawn oak figuring, and the specific patented mechanical lifting hardware for the glazed doors.

This piece works well as a functional display cabinet in a study or living room, providing a warm textural contrast against neutral walls while safely storing books or collections behind glass.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying a traditional beeswax polish to nourish the finish.
