Georgian Irish Fluted Silver Cream Jug Dublin 1801 James Scott

A superb Irish silver cream jug with deeply concave fluted lower walls, chamfered shoulders and very nicely shaped rim with raised reeded handle. Bright cut engraved decoration as a layered frieze under the rim and each fluted panel engraved with the mirror of that frieze along the top, a grape vine type leaf and an ornate hanging droplet. The lower edge with shaded triangular decoration. An engraved crest of a raised open hand above a monogram. Hallmarked Dublin, 1801, maker James Scott. A practical size for use as well as display.
 
It measures 13.2cm (5 1/4'') high, 13.8cm (5 3/8'') spout to handle and 7.3cm (2 7/8'') wide. It weighs 160g / 5.1ozt and has a sensible capacity (up to the shoulders) of 280ml / 9 1/2 fluid ounces.
 
In excellent condition with no damage or dents. Some minor rubbing to the edge of the hallmarks but minimal to the engraved decoration. A few marks inside the base but good and clean and ready for use.
