A fine pair of bookcases designed by Betty Joel. The makers label to the reverse of one, signed by Betty Joel, for Token Works Portsmouth and dated 1930. Each bookcase with three adjustable shelves by the use of metal pegs.
Betty Joel designed furniture, textiles and interiors, and had shops in Sloane Square and Knightsbridge. The Studio Magazine featured her work between 1927 and 1937. Today the quality and design of her pieces are highly regarded.
