William Iv/early Victorian, Engraved Bristol Green Glass Mell Decanter

19th century
Description

This is a small William IV/early Victorian, engraved Bristol green glass mell decanter dating from the early to mid 19th century, c1835/1840.

The decanter is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows the age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with some 180 years of use.

The decanter has been mouth-blown in Bristol green glass and has been engraved with thistles and roses to the body of the decanter. The decanter measures 13.5 cm (5.4 inches) in diameter at its widest point. The decanter is 16.5 cm (6.6 inches) in height without the stopper and 21 cm (8.4 inches) in height to the top of the stopper when inserted. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other evidence of restoration. There is a yellow metal and cork decanter stopper of the correct style for Brandy that comes with the decanter. We do not know as to whether it is the original or not.

A very nice looking decanter weighing in at 345 g. (~ 12 oz.).
