Art Deco furniture, prominent during the 1920s and 1930s, is characterised by sleek geometric shapes, streamlined forms, symmetrical designs, and the use of luxurious materials such as exotic wood veneers and polished metals.

Art Deco cabinets typically utilized sturdy softwood or hardwood carcases overlaid with decorative book-matched veneers like walnut, burr walnut, or macassar ebony, often finished with a high-gloss French polish or lacquer.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-accurate construction methods such as dovetail joints in the drawers, genuine wood veneers over solid secondary timbers, original hardware like bakelite or brass handles, and natural age-related wear.

Art Deco pieces can be integrated into contemporary spaces by pairing them with minimalist walls, neutral colour palettes, and contrasting textures to highlight the rich grain of the wood and the distinctive geometric silhouette.

Preserve walnut veneer by keeping it out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, avoiding excessive moisture, and maintaining a stable indoor humidity. Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth and occasionally nourish the wood with a quality microcrystalline wax.
