Technical Description
An exceptional 19th-century glass rummer dating to c1830.
It has a large bucket bowl above an angular knop stem and conical foot with a polished pontil.
The rim of the bowl has been gilded, as has the bowl with foliate within irregular bands. Each individual piece of foliage is in the same style, but unique and it all has a fine asynchronous design. The glass was gilded approx. 50 years after the death of James Giles in 1780, however it’s fair to say that the art that his workshop had contributed so much to, continued and diversified after his death. This is a fine piece of workmanship and we have never seen another example.
It comes from a small, but high quality collection we will be presenting over the next few weeks.

Excellent, age-related wear as shown. No cracks, or restoration. Loss of gilding as shown and overall, very good.
