Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian buttoned stool is a low piece of upholstered seating or foot support originating from the 19th century, characterised by deep-buttoned (tufted) fabric, decorative carved timber aprons, and cabriole or turned legs.

These stools were constructed using solid dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood. The padding typically comprised horsehair and coil springs, upholstered in fabrics like velvet, damask, or needlepoint, finished with brass castors.

Authentic pieces feature hand-carved details on the wooden frame, period-correct brass castors attached with iron screws, and evidence of hand-tacked upholstery underneath the frame.

A Victorian footstool can be styled as a low coffee table alternative when paired with a decorative tray, or placed at the foot of a bed or beside a fireplace to add texture and historical contrast to a room.

Velvet upholstery should be gently brushed with a soft clothes brush to remove dust and maintain the pile. Timber frames require periodic applications of natural beeswax polish to prevent the wood from drying.
