Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Paraffin lamps became widely used during the mid-to-late nineteenth century following the development of liquid fuel refining. British manufacturers produced intricate brass and glass variants, which served as primary domestic light sources prior to the widespread adoption of gas and electricity.

Traditional oil lamps were predominantly constructed using cast brass, copper, or spelter for the base and burner mechanisms. The fuel reservoirs (fonts) and shades were crafted from blown, pressed, or etched glass, often incorporating coloured or frosted designs.

Authentic period lamps feature stamped burner mechanisms with maker marks or country of origin details on the control knobs. Look for signs of age such as natural oxidisation on brass surfaces, hand-blown glass anomalies, and original threading on burner assemblies.

An antique oil lamp serves as a decorative focal point on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or desk within classic or eclectic interiors. Pairing rich brass and coloured glass alongside modern textiles creates visual contrast while highlighting period craftsmanship.

Glass components should be cleaned with warm, mild soapy water and dried thoroughly with a microfibre cloth to avoid water spots. Brass parts should be dusted gently, avoiding abrasive polishes that strip developed patina or damage historical maker marks.
