Eighteenth-century German enamelled glass typically features opaque vitreous enamels fired onto clear or coloured blown glass bases, frequently depicting floral motifs, heraldry, or domestic scenes.

These items were hand-blown using potash-lime or lead glass, then decorated by hand using finely ground coloured glass powders mixed with an oily medium before being kiln-fired.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural manufacturing irregularities such as pontil marks on the base, tiny air bubbles within the metal, and wear patterns in the enamel consistent with age.

Display the item securely within a glass-fronted cabinet or on a mantelpiece where natural light can highlight the translucent qualities of the coloured enamel without risking physical damage.

Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations, and clean only with a dry, soft microfibre cloth, avoiding water and chemical cleaning agents entirely.
