Bristol blue glass gained prominence in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, characterised by its deep cobalt colour achieved through the addition of cobalt oxide to the glass batch during manufacturing.

These items were traditionally free-blown or mold-blown from lead glass, often featuring a pontil mark on the base from the manufacturing process and distinctive spouts or flutes on the rim to hold wine glasses.

Authenticity is typically determined by examining the weight, the presence of a polished or rough pontil mark on the underside, tiny air bubbles trapped within the glass, and characteristic wear patterns on the base.

Antique glass pieces can be displayed on open shelving, used as small catch-alls on a desk or side table, or utilised as functional vases and centrepieces to add historic depth to contemporary spaces.

Antique glass should be washed by hand using lukewarm water and mild detergent, avoiding abrasive materials, extreme temperature changes, and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
