A fine quality Oak Coffer Bach of good colour, Circa 1725. Made from solid and heavy native welsh oak and with wonderful burnished surface. The piece is in very good original condition, remarkably retaining the original cabriole feet to the front, the back ones replaced many years ago in the correct manner. The patch to the back left hand corner of the top is original and covering a knotted area in the wood. This is a particularly good example of this form of small welsh coffer having the shaped feet, inlaid stars and chequered banding to both the plank front and drawer.
The George I plate brass handles are of the period but not original. The original top is the typical removable type associated with these coffers and has wooden hinges. One drawer bottom board has been replaced.
