Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A meat dome, or dish cover, was designed to cover large platters during formal dining services in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Its primary function was to retain heat and protect roasted meats while being transported from distant kitchens to the dining room.

Historically, meat domes were crafted from Sheffield plate or electroplated nickel silver (EPNS), where a layer of silver was fused or electrochemically deposited onto a base metal core such as copper or nickel alloy.

Authentic period examples often feature hand-engraved crests or coats of arms, cast handles secured with threaded bolts on the interior, gadrooned or beaded rims, and makers hallmarks stamped along the lower edge.

A silver meat dome can be displayed as a central decorative object on a dining table, buffet cabinet, or sideboard. Interior designers frequently style them elevated on wall brackets or grouped on open shelving alongside brass and copper kitchenware.

Wash gently with mild liquid soap and warm water, avoiding abrasive scouring pads. Apply non-abrasive silver polish using soft cotton cloths to remove oxidisation without wearing down the delicate silver plating.
