Camphor wood chests originated in Asia, particularly China, during the Qing dynasty and later became popular with British military officers and sailors traveling the trade routes due to the woods natural insect-repellent properties.

These chests are traditionally crafted from solid camphor wood, known for its distinct aromatic grain, and are frequently reinforced with brass corners, straps, and recessed campaign handles to withstand long journeys.

Authentic period pieces often feature hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional brass hardware fixed with flathead screws, and the characteristic lingering aroma of camphor wood within the interior.

A camphor chest works effectively as a functional coffee table in a living room, a blanket box at the foot of a bed, or as a statement storage piece in a hallway.

Maintain the wood by avoiding direct sunlight and excessive heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft cloth, and occasionally nourishing the surface with natural beeswax.
