Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Florentine pendant light dates from 1900 and is manufactured from gilded bronze and crystal in gold and green. The piece is constructed with bolted hand-made brass set screws and features scrollwork, acanthus leaves, oval framed inserts, faceted green crystals, and hanging clear glass prisms. Hand-made brass set screws, acanthus leaves, and clear glass prisms are all visible. The illumination from within the central frame projects a warm glow through the arrangement, highlighting the intricate metalwork and the surrounding glass drops. Ideal for domestic suspension, this light brings period character to a hallway, landing, or reception room. The proportions measure 52 cm wide and 52 cm deep, suiting moderate-scale interior spaces where an ornate focal point is desired. The construction reflects early craftsmanship traditions through its visible assembly fasteners and detailed Florentine styling.

FAQs

Florentine lighting originated in Florence, Italy, characterised by ornate gilt metalwork, intricate scrolling acanthus foliage, and decorative suspended crystal or glass prisms.

These fixtures typically feature cast bronze or brass frames finished with gold leaf or gilt patination, decorated with faceted clear or coloured crystal drops attached via wire pins.

Authentic period fixtures feature heavy cast bronze with hand-chased decorative surface details, natural age-related oxidisation in the crevices, and hand-cut or pressed crystal prisms.

Position the fixture in an entryway, dressing room, or above a dining area to introduce detailed texture and warm ambient reflections that contrast against neutral contemporary decor.

Dust the frame regularly with a soft dry brush and clean individual crystal drops using a microfiber cloth dampened with mild soapy water, avoiding abrasive polishes on gilded surfaces.
