Art Deco design emerged in the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by geometric symmetry, stylised motifs, clean lines, and a fusion of modern industrial production with luxurious materials like enamel and silver.

These pieces typically combined heavy moulded or cut glass bodies with sterling silver mounts, often accented with hand-applied guilloche enamel in vibrant colours on the screw caps or stoppers.

Authenticity is usually verified through clear makers marks, city assay office hallmarks (such as the anchor for Birmingham), date letters indicating the year of manufacture, and the distinct weight and patination of genuine sterling silver.

Place the piece on a mirrored tray atop a dressing table, side table, or mantelpiece to catch the light, allowing its metallic and coloured enamel details to contrast cleanly against minimalist modern surfaces.

Clean the glass with mild soapy water and a soft cloth, keeping moisture away from any inner cork linings. Use a specialised silver polishing cloth gently on the metal mounts, taking extreme care to avoid abrasive contact with the delicate enamel surface.
