Garnet jewellery experienced a massive surge in popularity during the 19th century, particularly influenced by Victorian sentiments and Bohemian craftsmanship, where deep red garnets were frequently cut en cabochon or rose-cut to maximise their fiery brilliance.

Pieces from this era typically feature rose-cut or table-cut pyrope garnets closed-back or foil-backed in low-karat gold, gilt metal, or silver-topped gold, with stones individually set in collet settings forming floral or cluster motifs.

Authenticity is usually determined by inspecting the hand-cut facets of the garnets, closed-back settings, handmade jump rings, and the specific oxidation patterns or hallmarks consistent with 19th-century European metalworking techniques.

Antique necklaces are frequently displayed on bespoke velvet busts, within glass-topped table vitrines, or incorporated into curated vanity trays alongside vintage perfume bottles to highlight their historical craftsmanship.

Antique gemstone jewellery should be kept away from ultrasonic cleaners and harsh chemicals; instead, clean gently with a soft, dry cloth and store flat in a lined jewellery box to protect the delicate foil backs and historical settings.
