Edwardian claret jugs gained popularity during the early 20th century as essential accessories for formal dining, particularly for serving red wine, reflecting the eras opulent hospitality customs.

Traditional claret jugs combine blown and hand-cut crystal or glass bodies with mounts, handles, and hinged lids crafted from sterling silver or silver plate.

Authentic pieces typically feature British hallmark stamps on the silver mounts indicating the assay office, date letter, and maker, alongside hand-cut facets and starburst motifs characteristic of early 1900s craftsmanship.

An antique claret jug can be used functionally on a bar cart or displayed as a decorative accent on a sideboard, reflecting light through its cut glass to add texture to contemporary spaces.

Wash the glass gently in warm soapy water using a soft brush, avoiding harsh abrasives, and polish the silver mounts sparingly with a specialised silver cloth to preserve the patina without damaging the metal.
