Victorian mourning bracelets were sentimental pieces of jewellery crafted from human hair, often combined with precious metals, worn to remember and honour deceased loved ones during the 19th century.

These items typically incorporated human hair carefully braided or woven into intricate patterns, secured with clasps made of gold, such as 18ct yellow gold, and sometimes accented with jet, pearls, or black enamel.

Authentic pieces feature microscopic hair strands woven with remarkable precision, often showing signs of natural ageing, paired with period-appropriate hallmarks on the metal clasps and traditional construction methods.

Such items are typically displayed within specialised glass domes, shadow boxes, or velvet-lined display cases as part of a curated curiosity collection.

Hair jewellery must be kept away from direct sunlight, moisture, and chemical cosmetics to prevent the fragile fibres from becoming brittle or disintegrating over time.
