Description

A lovely example of a large open dish or bowl dating from the Edwardian era. Created solely in solid sterling silver, it is hallmarked for Sheffield 1904 with the maker's mark of William Hutton & Sons.

The bowl has a reticulated, everted form with a moulded scroll and shell border. The sides are decorated in a fretted foliate design. The silver is in excellent condition. Any shadows are a result of my poor photography, not damage to the bowl.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian silver often reflects a revival of 18th-century classical motifs, such as Neo-Georgian and Louis XVI styles, characterised by light, graceful forms, intricate pierced work, and floral garlands.

These items are typically crafted from sterling silver (925 standard), often manufactured using a combination of stamping, piercing, and hand-chasing techniques by skilled silversmiths.

Authenticity is verified through hallmark stamps on the metal, which typically include the assay office mark, the standard mark (such as a lion passant for sterling), the date letter, and the makers mark.

An antique silver bowl functions effectively as a contrasting focal point on a sleek, contemporary dining table or sideboard, mixing historical craftsmanship with minimalist modern decor.

Preservation requires regular dusting with a soft cloth, occasional cleaning with specialised non-abrasive silver polish, and storage in a tarnish-resistant environment away from direct moisture.
