Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

Old Sheffield Plate is an early form of silver plating produced by fusing a sheet of silver to a copper ingot, primarily developed in the 18th and 19th centuries before electroplating was invented.

These items were typically handmade using fused plate metal, often featuring hand-beaded or applied wire rims, with hammered bases shaped to hold roasted meats.

Authenticity is often indicated by the faint telegraphing of copper through the silver layer on high-wear edges, hand-applied borders, and the absence of a standard electroplate makers mark.

It can be displayed upright on a plate stand as focal wall art, used as a tablescape centrepiece on a dining table, or styled on a sideboard as a reflective tray for glassware.

Clean infrequently with a dedicated non-abrasive silver polish, avoid harsh chemical dips that damage the thin silver layer, and store in a tarnish-resistant cloth in a low-humidity environment.
