Edwardian silver, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, frequently draws inspiration from earlier neoclassical, Louis XV, and Georgian motifs, often featuring lighter, more delicate ornamentation than heavy Victorian pieces.

These items were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, meeting the British standard of 925 parts per thousand, and were often shaped using techniques such as piercing, repousse, and chasing to create intricate openwork patterns.

Authenticity is verified through official British assay office hallmarks stamped directly onto the metal, which typically include a makers mark, the lion passant for sterling silver, a city mark, and a date letter corresponding to the specific year of manufacture.

An antique silver dish can be used as a contrasting metallic accent on a dark wood sideboard or coffee table, functioning either as a standalone decorative object or as a container for displaying organic items like fruit or dried botanicals.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a non-abrasive silver cloth or specialised micro-polish to remove tarnish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can strip away desirable patination and damage delicate pierced details.
