This late Victorian three-stone ring dates from the 1880s and is made from 18ct yellow gold. The piece holds a central oval cabochon natural opal displaying flashes of orange, green, blue, and red, flanked by an old-mine cut diamond on one side and an old-mine cut ruby on the other. The setting incorporates claw mounts, a bezel surround, and delicate millegrain beading along the shoulders. The ring face measures 1.2 cm wide by 0.9 cm high and 2.2 cm deep. Suitable for everyday wear as an alternative engagement band or dress ring, the jewellery item fits standard finger placement and functions as a traditional personal accessory. The yellow gold band curves smoothly to a polished finish at the back, while the front setting highlights the contrasting colours of the white, red, and iridescent gemstones.

Late Victorian three-stone rings typically feature a prominent central gemstone flanked by two accent stones set horizontally across the band. Craftsmanship of the 1880s often incorporated 18ct yellow gold mounts with star or carved claw settings holding gemstones such as opals, rubies, sapphires, and diamonds.

Victorian jewellers frequently used high-carat yellow gold, predominantly 15ct and 18ct, alongside solid silver settings for diamonds. Popular gemstones included natural Australian opals, Burmese rubies, diamond cuts such as old mine or rose cuts, and seed pearls.

Authentic pieces usually display hallmarks indicating the gold purity and assay office, alongside hand-carved detailing and hand-cut gemstones. Victorian opal settings generally exhibit closed or semi-closed back constructions and subtle hand-engraved patterns along the shoulders.

An antique gemstone ring can serve as a standalone focal piece on the hand or be stacked alongside slender, minimalist modern gold bands. Mixing historical gemstone rings with contemporary tailoring adds a textured, layered aesthetic to everyday attire.

Opals are delicate gemstones sensitive to extreme temperature changes, moisture loss, and chemicals. Clean the ring gently using a soft dry cloth, avoiding ultrasonic cleaners, harsh detergents, or prolonged immersion in water to preserve both the stone and the gold setting.
