Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE GEORGIAN ERA:
Rough snapped pontil scar under foot: made before polished pontils became standard.
Triple-colour spiral tapes around white corkscrew: English stem work of the 1760s.
Bell-shaped bowl over conical foot: mid-18th-century drinking glass form.
Tiny seed bubbles and faint striations: hand-blown lead metal.
Fine wear scratches beneath the foot rim: age and normal handling.

This Georgian period wine glass dates to circa 1760 during the reign of King George III. Made from clear lead crystal, the piece comprises a large flared bell-shaped bowl above a slender stem decorated with alternating ruby red, white, and translucent green spiral threads enclosing a white multi-ply corkscrew. The structure terminates in a plain conical foot. Measuring 16.2 cm in height with a 6.5 cm rim diameter and a 7.2 cm foot diameter, this glassware item remains in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or restoration. In a modern interior, the item suits placement upon a sideboard top within an English Country House setting. It brings period character to a dining room display or a glass cabinet alongside other drinkware collections. The transparent body and intricate multi-coloured stem create a striking visual display when illuminated by natural light or cabinet lighting.

Originating in Britain around the mid-18th century, opaque twist wine glasses feature decorative stems containing spiraled white or coloured enamel threads encapsulated within clear lead crystal glass.

These pieces were hand-blown using English lead crystal glass combined with opaque white and coloured glass or enamel rods that were manipulated and stretched to form internal spiral patterns.

Authentic period pieces typically feature a snapped or polished pontil mark on the base, slight irregularities from hand-blowing, distinct wear on the underside of the foot, and the characteristic greyish tint of 18th-century English lead glass.

Georgian stemware can be displayed inside a glass front cabinet, arranged on a sideboard top alongside silver trays, or styled as decorative accents on a bar cart.

Antique lead crystal should be hand washed individually in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding hot water and dishwashers, and dried immediately with a lint-free cloth.
