Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1910s:
Hand-carved foliate cresting on the shaped apron: French revival styling.
Cabriole legs with carved acanthus knees: early twentieth-century cabinet making.
Gentle rubbing on the feet and lower edges: natural wear from domestic use.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A centre stool is a large, low upholstered piece of furniture originally designed for placement in the middle of a formal drawing room or reception space to provide multi-directional seating.

These pieces are typically constructed with a solid hardwood frame, such as mahogany, walnut, or beech, featuring hand-carved aprons and legs paired with woven webbing and padded fabric upholstery.

Authentic period examples display signs of hand-carving with subtle variations, traditional joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon joints, and natural patination along the lower timber frame and feet.

A large centre stool can function as a central coffee table alternative when styled with a decorative tray, placed at the foot of a bed, or positioned in a grand entryway.

Dust the timber frame regularly with a soft cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish to carved areas, while keeping the upholstery free of debris using a soft vacuum attachment.
