Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Art Deco lighting originated in the 1920s and 1930s, featuring strong geometric shapes, streamlined forms, symmetry, and architectural stepping. Designs often incorporated modern materials of the machine age alongside natural wood veneers, moulded glass shades, and polished metal fittings.

Craftsmen typically utilised exotic timber veneers such as burr walnut, macassar ebony, and mahogany for the base, paired with chromed metal, nickel plating, or brass mountings. Shades were commonly executed in frosted, marbled, opaline, or cloud glass featuring relief patterns or gilding.

Authentic period lamps display characteristics such as original bayonet or Edison screw bulb fitters, aged fabric-covered wiring, stamped maker marks on metal fitters, and naturally patinated chrome or wood finishes. The glass globe will usually show hand-blown or early moulded glass irregularities rather than perfectly uniform modern plastic attributes.

Position the lamp on a minimalist sideboard, console table, or bedside cabinet to create a focused ambient accent. The geometric lines and warm timber tones complement modern minimalist decor, mid-century furnishings, and classic dark academia aesthetics.

Clean the glass globe gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that may damage gilded rings or delicate frosted surfaces. Apply a natural beeswax polish to the timber base along the grain, and ensure electrical components are inspected and rewired to modern safety standards by a qualified electrician.
