This pair of Art Deco French table lamps from 1920 is made from polished brass, mahogany, and fabric. Each lamp takes the form of an urn-shaped body mounted on a circular wooden plinth with a stepped moulding, finished in warm brown tones. An embossed floral band encircles the upper part of the brass body, while the top supports a pleated cream fabric shade. The lamps stand 50 cm high, with a base diameter of 33 cm and a diameter of 10 cm. They are suited for placement on a sideboard or side table in a living room, dining room, or hallway to provide warm ambient lighting.

FAQs

French Art Deco lighting from the 1920s and 1930s is characterised by geometric symmetry, clean lines, and stylized decorative motifs such as florals, sunbursts, or classical urn profiles, typically executed in polished metals.

Makers during the Art Deco period frequently utilised polished brass, bronze, nickel-plated metal, and chrome, often mounting metal bases onto hardwood or marble plinths and completing them with fabric or glass shades.

Authentic pieces feature period-appropriate construction methods such as cast or stamped metal components, threaded brass rod assemblies, weighted wooden or cast bases, and period-correct wiring or lamp holders.

A pair of Art Deco lamps works well symmetrically placed on a dining room sideboard, an entryway console table, or flanking a bed on matching nightstands to provide ambient lighting and metallic contrast.

Dust metal surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoid harsh chemical cleaners that strip lacquer or natural patination, and ensure electrical rewiring meets current safety standards.
