FAQs

Originating in the Kashmir region, this craft involves forming objects from paper pulp or turned wood, which are then primed, hand-painted with intricate floral motifs, and sealed with protective lacquer.

These lamp bases are generally constructed from turned wood or molded papier-mache, embellished with painted pigments and metallic accents, and fitted with brass electrical mountings.

Authentic pieces feature fine hand-painted detail with visible brushwork, age-appropriate wear to the varnish, and period-correct metal fittings rather than modern plastic components.

Position the lamp base on a dark timber console table or bedside cabinet, pairing it with a simple neutral lampshade to highlight the detailed pattern of the stem.

Dust gently using a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding water, liquid solvents, or direct sunlight, which can degrade the lacquer finish and fade the pigments.
