FAQs

Kashmiri lacquerware, historically related to Kar-i-Kalamdani decorative traditions, involves papier-mache or turned wood bases decorated with hand-painted patterns and sealed under varnish layers.

Traditional Kashmiri lamps are constructed from carved wood or moulded papier-mache, finished with pigment paints, metallic powder detailing, and a protective resin varnish.

Authentic examples display hand-painted brushwork under close inspection, regional motifs such as chinar leaves or bird illustrations, and slight variations in the lacquer application.

Position the lamp base on a neutral sideboard, desk, or bedside table, pairing it with a simple linen drum shade to highlight the detailed surface artwork.

Dust gently with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid liquid cleaners, chemical polishes, or placement in direct sunlight to prevent cracking or discoloration of the paintwork.
