This pair of English Adam style twin-arm wall lights dates from the early 20th century, specifically circa 1930. The pieces are fashioned from gilt bronze with a gold colour and retain their original lacquer finish, displaying beaded detail to the oval sunburst backplates, honeysuckle motifs at the top with anthemion finials, and cascading husk drops. Two curved reeded arms incorporate foliate designs that terminate in leaf-design bobeche trays and candle-style sockets, alongside pendant drop elements suspended underneath. Each fixture measures 37 cm high, 27 cm wide, and 15 cm deep. These light fittings are suited for placement on narrow wall spaces in living rooms, hallways, or dining rooms within a home today. The wiring has been renewed to ensure they are in working order for modern domestic use.

The Adam style, developed in the late 18th century by architect Robert Adam, is characterised by Neoclassical symmetry, lighter structural proportions, and classical motifs such as anthemia, urns, husk garlands, and oval medallions.

Authentic pieces from this genre were cast in bronze or brass and finished with gilding (ormolu) or lacquer to protect the metal from oxidisation. Flame sockets were originally crafted to hold wax candles, which were later converted to hold electrical wiring.

Look for crisp hand-chased detailing, heavy cast bronze construction, and signs of hand-threading or historical electrical conversions on the reverse of the backplate.

Position wall sconces symmetrically on either side of a large wall mirror, artwork, or architectural doorway to frame key focal points and provide balanced ambient lighting.

Dust gilt bronze surfaces regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or dry paintbrush. Avoid liquid metal polishes, water, or abrasive cleaners, as these can strip original gilding and patination.
