Louis XVI style wall sconces feature Neoclassical decorative elements inspired by Greco-Roman antiquity, including draped ribbons, urns, foliage garlands, and symmetrical geometric backplates.

These fixtures were predominantly cast in solid bronze or brass and finished using gilding techniques such as mercury gilding or electroplating to achieve a durable metallic sheen.

Authentic pieces exhibit substantial weight, hand-chased detailing along cast seams, authentic patina or oxidisation in crevices, and historical wiring channels or candle socket adaptations.

They are commonly installed in pairs to frame chimney breasts, entryway mirrors, or artwork, providing warm accent lighting while serving as sculptural architectural elements.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft-bristled brush or microfiber cloth, avoiding abrasive polishes, water, or chemical solvents that can strip or compromise the delicate gilt finish.
