Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pair of large French Rococo style wall lights dating from 1920 bring traditional character to domestic interiors. Formed from gilt bronze and brass, the fixtures display an aged gold finish with original faded gilded patination across their decorative surfaces. Each piece features an ornate C-scroll backplate that supports five scrolling candle arms arranged in a double-tiered formation, complemented by foliate drip pans, acanthus leaf scrollwork, and bulbous leaf candle sconces. Exposed visible details include flame-shaped clear glass bulbs, scrolled mounting brackets, and textured leafy surface relief. Measuring 71 cm high, 31 cm wide, and 18 cm deep, these sizable sconces suit prominent placement in a fireplace alcove or flanking a central mirror in a drawing room or hallway. Installation is straightforward using the supplied aged brass screws, providing ambient lighting alongside historic aesthetic appeal.

FAQs

French Rococo wall sconces feature asymmetric C-scrolls, sweeping acanthus leaves, and elaborate foliate motifs inspired by eighteenth-century decorative arts.

These fixtures were typically cast in bronze or brass and coated in mercury gilding, known as ormolu, to create a durable metallic lustre.

Authentic period examples display cast seam lines, hand-chased surface details, age-related oxidisation on reverse sides, and traditional threaded bolt assemblies.

Position them flanking a fireplace, framing a hallway mirror, or mounted against dark painted walls to create contrast with contemporary furnishings.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and avoid chemical cleaners, water, or abrasive polishes that can wear away the delicate gilding layer.
