Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Art Deco desk lamp from 1930 is formed from polished chrome with a bright silver finish. The piece comprises a horizontal cylindrical shade with stepped circular end panels, supported by two curved metal arms that rise from an organic, stepped oval base with raised scroll motifs and decorative finials. The adjustable shade pivots between the upright stems, and a grey cord lead exits near the back of the base. Measuring 25.5 cm high, 25.5 cm wide, and 16 cm deep, this task light is well proportioned for a home office desk, study, or library workspace. The sleek, streamlined silhouette brings period glamour to a modern interior, sitting comfortably on a wooden bureau, leather-topped writing table, or bedside table to provide focused task lighting. The reflective metallic surfaces catch ambient light, while the sculptural curves offer a strong visual accent in both traditional and contemporary settings.

FAQs

Art Deco lighting design emerged during the 1920s and 1930s, marked by geometric shapes, streamlined forms, symmetrical structures, and reflective metallic surfaces influenced by modern industrial progress.

Manufacturers primarily utilised chrome-plated metal, nickel, brass, pressed glass, and early synthetic polymers such as Bakelite for end caps and switches.

Authentic pieces often feature period-correct patent markings, weighted cast metal bases beneath plating, original rotary or toggle switches, and characteristic age-related patination.

Placing a structured metallic task lamp on a dark wood desk, console table, or minimalist shelf creates a balanced focal point that bridges classic and modern aesthetic schemes.

Wipe the surface with a dry or slightly dampened microfibre cloth to remove dust, avoiding abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that can strip or pit the original metallic plating.
