Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE EDWARDIAN ERA:
Fret-pierced foliate dividers: typical parlour cabinetmaking of the turn of the century.
Slender cabriole legs with carved scroll toes: fashionable French-influenced early twentieth-century styling.
Central turned and carved baluster support: standard lathe work of the period.
Gentle wear to the moulded edge: natural softening from handling over time.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This Edwardian revolving bookcase comes in dark brown mahogany and stands 78.5 cm high. The top section features open shelving divided into four compartments with slatted divisions and delicate pierced scrolling foliate fretwork side panels, surrounding a turned and carved central column. The shaped top includes a moulded edge, while the circular moulded base rests on slender cabriole legs with scroll toes. The timber exhibits a figured grain, a mellow patina, and a rich, warm finish. Suitable for placement in a gentleman's library, study, or living room, the piece functions well beside a sofa or chair for accessible book storage. The revolving mechanism allows easy access to volumes from multiple angles. It provides practical surface and shelving space while maintaining a compact footprint that suits traditional or transitional interior schemes. Buyers seeking a functional period furniture item with decorative fretwork details will find this bookcase fits domestic reading spaces comfortably.

Edwardian revolving bookcases typically feature compact, multi-sided vertical storage mounted on a central rotating mechanism, often incorporating fretwork panels, slatted sides, and carved support legs.

Solid hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, and walnut were primarily used, combined with iron or steel rotation hardware to allow smooth 360-degree movement.

Authentic pieces feature period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut fretwork, iron swivel mechanisms, traditional timber joinery, and natural surface patination consistent with early 20th-century furniture making.

Position the piece as an occasional side table beside an armchair or reading area, using the top surface for lighting while storing books within the rotating lower compartments.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft cloth, apply high-grade beeswax polish along the wood grain periodically, and keep the swivel mechanism clean and lubricated while maintaining stable ambient humidity.
