Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This unusual Victorian Doulton Lambeth oil lamp stands 45.5 cm high, 20.5 cm wide, and 20.5 cm deep. The squat bulbous stoneware base rests on three small claw feet, displaying a salt and oxide glaze in rich blues, browns, and mustard tones with incised scrollwork decoration. A domed ceramic upper section supports a brass collar with a burner and gallery, holding a terracotta-coloured, frilled glass shade with an etched floral pattern and a tall glass chimney rising from the centre. The piece bears factory impressions and potters' initials on the base. It suits placement on a sideboard top in a living room, hallway, or dining room to add period character and ambient lighting to a traditional interior scheme.

FAQs

A Doulton Lambeth oil lamp is a late 19th-century lighting device produced by the Doulton pottery in Lambeth, London, featuring decorative salt-glazed stoneware bases paired with brass burners and glass chimneys.

Victorian oil lamps were constructed using salt-glazed stoneware or porcelain for the base, cast brass or metal alloy for the burner mechanisms, blown glass for the chimneys, and etched or tinted glass for the outer shades.

Authentic pieces feature impressed Doulton Lambeth oval backstamps or rosettes on the stoneware underside, often accompanied by artist monograms, pattern numbers, and manufacturer marks on the brass burner assembly.

An antique ceramic oil lamp functions as a focal point when placed on a timber sideboard, marble mantelpiece, or hallway console table to complement eclectic and traditional decor schemes.

Clean the stoneware base with a soft dry cloth, wipe the glass shade and chimney using mild warm soapy water, and polish the brass fitting with a specialized non-abrasive metal cleaner.
