Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This smart pair of Chester sterling silver candlesticks dates from the Art Deco period of 1919. Made by James Deakin & Son in Chester, the pair displays a polished silver finish with reflective metallic surfaces, circular reeded capitals, curved panelled faceted stems, and rising square cut-corner stepped bases. Hallmarks appear clearly stamped near the edge of the base, while the design incorporates clean geometric lines without any personal inscriptions. Each candlestick measures 17.8 cm high, 7 cm wide, and 7 cm deep, with a combined weight of 11.7 Troy Oz including the loaded bases. Suitable for modern interiors, these candlesticks provide a refined decorative accent when placed upon a dining table, sideboard, or mantelpiece. They hold standard taper candles to illuminate dining rooms, living spaces, or studies during evening gatherings. Their compact footprint allows them to fit comfortably on narrow ledges or side tables, bringing period character and functional illumination to contemporary home settings.

Chester silver candlesticks were assay-marked at the Chester Assay Office in England prior to its closure in 1962. These metalwork pieces feature traditional British silversmithing techniques, ranging from Georgian styles to geometric Art Deco forms.

Sterling silver candlesticks consist of 925 parts per thousand pure silver alloyed with copper for structural rigidity. Many examples feature resin-loaded or pitch-filled bases to ensure stability when holding tall wax taper candles.

Authentic items bear official British hallmarks, including the lion passant mark for sterling quality, the Chester town mark depicting three wheat sheaves and a dagger, a specific date letter, and the makers initials.

A pair of polished silver candlesticks can be arranged as a dining table centrepiece, placed on a mantelpiece, or set on a sideboard alongside neutral ceramics to create balance between historic metalwork and contemporary decor.

Dusting with a soft microfibre cloth removes surface debris, while tarnish can be treated using a specialised silver polishing cloth or gentle silver cream. Immersion in water should be avoided if the bases are loaded.
